George Lewis

George Lewis has been a member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians since 1971. Currently a professor of music in the Critical Studies / Experimental Practices area at the University of California, San Diego, he has explored computer based interactive works, text-sound works and notated forms and is documented on nearly 100 recordings as a composer, improvisor, performer, interpreter. Lewis has worked with countless major figures in new music, including Anthony Braxton, Douglas Ewart, Anthony Davis, David Behrman, David Murray, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Fred Anderson, Frederic Rzewski, Gil Evans, Irene Schweizer, J.D. Parran, Joelle Leandre, John Zorn, Leroy Jenkins, Steve Lacy, Misha Mengelberg, Richard Teitelbaum, Roscoe Mitchell and Wadada Leo Smith.
